First edition of the Commentaries by Salmasius (Claude Salmaise, 1588-1653) an eminent French Classicist, also comprising the linguistic theories of J. Elichmann in regard to the origins of the Greek language. Salmasius was popular in literary circles for also he discovered a unique manuscript of the work of K. Kephalas that contributed to the composition of the Palatine Anthology comprising unpublished erotic epigrams by Straton of Sardis, a port from the days of Hadrian.
