Hierocles. Ἱεροκλέους Φιλοσόφου Ὑπόμνημα εἰς τὰ τῶν Πυθαγορείων ἔπη τὰ χρυσᾶ..., Joan. Curterio Interprete..., London, printed by J.R. for J. Williams, 1673.
The neo-Platonist Hierocles’s (5th century ad) ‘Hypomnema’ first circulated in compilation with Pythagoras’s Golden Verses in the Latin translation by Giovanni Aurispa in Padua in 1474, reprinted three times in Rome by 1500. Hierocles from Alexandria (5th century ad), who introduced neo-Platonic philosophy from Athens to Alexandria and who endeavoured to ‘reconcile’ the works of Plato with those of Aristoteles was much favoured in Paltonic and neo-Platonic circles from the Renaissance onward, which is also confirmed by the considerable number of editions of his writings in Latin, French, German, Italian and English.
