The Onassis Library was created in 2010 by the Onassis Foundation within the framework of its activities for the promotion of culture, education and civilization. The Onassis Library is housed in a neoclassical building of the Onassis Foundation in Plaka (Amalias Avenue 56) and accumulates two large collections of books:
1. The Hellenic Library (former K. Staikos' book collection)
2. The Travel Accounts book collection
Vision and timeless mission of the Onassis Foundation is to release the forces of our society. Operating in the same context, the vision of the Onassis Library is to preserve and disseminate the rich cultural heritage of our country as perpetual property of the Greek Nation. The goal is to make these books accessible online not only to researchers but also to the general public.
The Onassis Library has already digitized 100,000 records and has implemented two digital applications for web / tablet / smartphone which are freely available through this website.
