Xenophon. Xenophontis de factis & dictis Socratis memoratu dignis Bessarione Cardinale Niceno interprete. Libri Quatuor, Rome, Ariottus de Trino, impensis Ioannis Mazochi Bergomatis, December 1521.
Second edition of the Ἀπομνημονευμάτων Σωκράτους (Apomnemonevmata of Socrates) by Xenophon and the first integral publication in Latin. It is the writer’s most significant opus, that became popular as it contained events and dialogues about the life of his teacher. Bessarion translated it in 1444, and the manuscript found its way to the printing house of Mazzocchi, at a time when Greek letters were flourishing in Rome with the unstinted support of Pope Leo X as well as of other humanists. It is characteristic that from 1506 to 1521 the Mazzocchi family had published at least nineteen Greek texts such as e.g. Procopius (De bello), Homer (Odissea).
