G. Trapezountios was a prolific writer and one of the brightest spirits of the Renaissance, all the more because his knowledge of Latin was recognized by all, as evidenced by his outstanding work Rhetoricorum libri V (= introducing the Byzantine rhetoric tradition to the West). The first edition of De re dialectica was printed in Cologne in 1533, with numerous reprints thereafter.
