Stephanos the Byzantine. Στέφανος Περὶ Πόλεων..., Guilielmi Xylandri Augustani labore..., Basel, ex officina Oporiniana, March 1568.
The first edition of the work of Stephanos of Byzantium, sixth century ad, originally with the title Ethnika, was published by Aldus in 1502. It is a compilation of all the place names known to Stephanos until then, of which only an abridgement has survived to our day. A second edition in 1521 by the Giunti in Florence followed, and the third is signed by Oporinus – the first, of course, in German territory.
