Pythagoras - Phocylides - Theognis et al. Opus aureum et scholasticum, 2 vols. [Ernst Vögelin] Leipzig, 1577.
None of the works attributed to Pythagoras are legitimate, such as the very well known Chrysa Epi, that is the 71 hexameters with the fundamental principles of Pythagorean philosophy. In fact, Hierocles of Alexandria (fifth century ad) wrote an Hypomnema thereon. The first edition of the writings attributed to Pythagoras was not integral but had only Latin translations of renowned supporters of Platonic thought, such as M. Ficino. They are contained in codices of miscellany with works by Iamblichus, Phocylides and others. For Phocylides and Theognis see Nos. 107, 215.
