Leo Allatius. Excerpta Varia Graecorum Sophistarum, ac Rhetorum..., Rome, excudebat Mascardus, 1641.
First edition of Allatius from Chios (1586-1669). He lived in Rome from 1600, and Pope Gregory XV entrusted him with the leadership for the transfer of the Library of Heidelberg to the Holy See, which the ruler of Bavaria offered the Pontiff. In 1661 Allatius undertook curatorship of the Vatican Library, at the same time systematically writing theological texts, mainly on the subject of the Schism.
