It is the panegyric speech by Pliny the Younger in front of the emperor Trajan when he was invested with the supreme command. The literati considered it exemplary and it is thus promoted in the collected Panegyrici Latini. It was first published together with the Letters by Antonius Moretus in Venice in about 1592.
