This edition of Theocritus is a prime example of the literary work and penetrating spirit of the great German philologist Jacobus Reiske. The first volume is a reprint of the Idylls with the Commentaries collected by Z. Kallierges and the second consists of the annotation and observations of three philologists treading the boards of edition: Henry Stephanos, Isaac Casaubonus and J. Scaliger
