Ioannicios Katranos.
First edition of the Paleas te ke Neas Diathekes, followed by a further four editions in the 16th century (circa 1539/40; 1549; 1556; 1567). It is the work of the Corfiot Ioannicios Kartanos, who worked in his birthplace and in Venice, where he found his way to the printing press. It is a selective popularized paraphrase of the Bible, with the object of being read by broader strata and becoming comprehensible also for uneducated Greek-speakers. It was modelled on the Italian equivalent Fioretto di tutta la Biblia hystoriato (Venice, 1521) as well as other Greek sources.
