Maximos Margounios. Βίοι Ἁγίων ἐκ τῆς Ἑλληνικῆς Γλώττης ἤτοι ἐκ τῶν Συναξαρίων μεταφρασθέντες..., Venice, Antonio Pinelli, 1621.
The Synaxaria, that is a selection of the Lives of the Saints, were first printed in 1600, the Pinelli press issuing a first collection in 1601, henceforth repeatedly reprinting it: the present one stands as the sixth in succession. Emmanuel Margounios was born in Crete in 1530, studied at Padua, was ordained a monk and, with the name of Maximos became bishop of Cythera. He was a prolific writer and has left a multitude of epistles
