Leo Allatius. Λέοντος τοῦ Ἀλλατίου Ἐγχειρίδιον περὶ τῆς ἐκπορεύσεως τοῦ Ἁγίου Πνεύματος..., Rome, Typis S. Congr. de Prop. Fide, 1658.
First and unique edition of the Enchiridion and one of dozens by Allatius, a purely scholarly text treating issues of dogma, with references to the patristic texts. Allatius (1586-1669) from Chios, studied successively in his birthplace, in Calabria and in Rome at the College of Saint Athanasios where he delved into philosophy and theology. He served as counsellor to cardinals and popes in matters of theology and was the emissary of Pope Gregory XV to Germany in 1622 to fetch the library donated by the Elector of Bavaria. He then undertook the duties of librarian for Fr. Barberini and, from 1661, of the Vatican Library.
