Auguste Fabre, Histoire du siège de Missolonghi, Paris, Moutardier, 1827.
The author of this edition, Jean-Raymond-Auguste Fabre (1792-1839) was a poet and journalist, who made his first appearance in the world of letters in 1823 with La Calédonie. In 1825 his tragedy Irène, ou l’histoire de Souli, was produced at the Odéon but met with objections from censorship. Thus, sourcing his material from several articles he wrote a play based on another heroic episode of the Greek War of Independence, Histoire du Siége de Missolonghi, which met with great success.
