This is the first edition of the work, which was published in five volumes from 1768 to 1775, by the press of the Orphanage of The Hague. The author, Theodoret, was born in the end of the 4th century and died in 457/8. He was bishop of Cyprus and from 420 or 423 became involved in the work of several Synods. He composed several works, the most important being the Ecclesiastical History, divided in five speeches.
