First edition.The Irish classical scholar Mahaffy published a series of works on the Golden Age of Greek history and literature. He was also one of the professors of Oscar Wilde.The woodcuts of this edition were later photographed by Malcolm Macmillan and Rev. W. Covington, and some of them included in the Tour du Monde magazine. A copy of his work, bound in the original brown cloth, forms part of Blackmer's collection although not included in the printed catalogue.
