The first edition of the work was printed in 1728 at Harderwyk, comprising a critical commentary of Calimachus, Anacreon, Aeschylus, Herodotus and the grammarian Hephaestion. D’Arnaud (1711-1765), a Dutch philosopher and jurist, had great prestige at diverse European universities and strengthened his position in the world of letters with this book.
