Andrew Michael Ramsay. I-II, Vienna, Josef Baumeister, 1783.
First edition of the translation of the work by Ramsay that first circulated in London in 1727. The Greek translation was however from the French edition, which also circulated in the same year. It marks the beginning of the publishing activity of the very active and energetic Polyzoes Labanitziotes in Vienna, who in the foreword to the book specifies the importance of the work, that leads the reader beyond what Xenophon bequeathed in the Education of Cyrus. He points out Cyrus’s virtues and describes customs and manners of peoples he subjected, such as Babylonians, Egyptians and others.
