Bessarion, Cardinal. Oratio de Sacramento Eucharistiae, quibus verbis Christi corpus perficiatur. Eiusdem Epistola ad Graecos. Index eorum omniũ quae hic pertractantur, Strasburg, Mattias Schürer, December 1513.
First edition of one of the few works by Cardinal Bessarion (1403-1472) that were printed. It is a text he wrote in 1464, relating to matter concerning the Union of Churches, which he composed in Latin and dedicated to Pope Paul II. The edition also comprises the Epistola ad Graecos which he wrote when he became Latin patriarch of Constantinople in Viterbo in 1463. The foreword is by Sébastien Murr, none other than Joachim von Watt (1484-1551), a scholar from Switzerland, born in St. Gallen and later appointed imperial orator and poet by Maximilian I. The work was an exhortation to the Greeks to proceed to union of the two Churches. We know of four editions of the work, all dating to the sixteenth century.
