Graecae Literaturae Dragmata..., Basel, Andreas Cratander, 1520.
Second edition of the Grammar by Johannes Œcolampadius (1482-1531), a pupil of Reuchlin’s, fellow student of Melanchthon and collaborator of Erasmus. It comprises translations of patristic texts (Chrysostom, Nazianzus) and is distinguished by the way the different subjects are organized. It did not however make a great impression, as Erasmus himself had translated the Grammar by Th. Gazis, which was certainly more recognizable. The woodcut of the title’s surround is the work of Ambrosius Holbein, Renaissance in character, and is typical of the aesthetics of books in the German-speaking countries.
