Eustathius of Thessaloniki.
First edition of the Parekbolai and first monumental printing venture in Rome after the edition of Favorinos’s Lexicon (1523). The Lexicon, in four volumes, had the sponsorship of Cardinal Marcello Cervini (1501-1555), and is based on manuscript material that belonged to Cardinal Ridolfi. After completion of the first volume, printing was interrupted for typographical reasons and continued with a different family of typeface, of smaller dimensions, mainly for reasons of economy. The two founts employed belonged to Nikolaos Sophianos and Giovanni Onorio (‘scriptor graecus’). The fourth volume was edited by Matthaios Devaris and contains a general detailed index.
