Ἀνθολογία διαφόρων ἐπιγραμμάτων παλαιῶν, εἰς ἑπτὰ βιβλία διῃρημένη [Geneva], Henry Stephanos, 1566.
This edition by Henry Stephanos, comprising epigrams by 74 Greek authors, the editio princeps for 18 thereof, is the most credible and comprehensive of all the foregoing and contains interpretative commentaries by Stephanos himself. Indicative of his commentary is that he gives the Latin translation of an epigram (AP 6.76) and follows it with fifty different versions of the last couplet. Stephanos additionally complemented the edition with a distinguishing note ‘notae sibi peculiares’ in order to define different categories of nouns: persons and well known creatures of the animal kingdom, states and cities, mountains etc.
