The Progymnasmata by Aphtonius, Livanios’s pupil were very popular and were extensively commentated in Byzantine times, such as by Ioannes Doxapatri for instance. The work is comprised in the Aldine edition of the Rhetores Graeci (1508), published integrally in Florence in 1515 by the house of Giunti.
