Oἱ τῆς ἡρωϊκῆς ποιήσεως πρωτεύοντες ποιηταί, καὶ ἄλλοι τινές... [Geneva], Henry Stephanos, 1566.
This is a monumental edition of Greek poetry and indisputable the most exceptional example of the printing skill of the Stephanos printers. The first part is devoted to Homer’s poetry, based on the collating of 18 printed editions and one vetustissimum exemplar. Stephanos in this way succeeded in establishing a critical edition that remained the stereotype up to the nineteenth century. The second part comprises significant texts by Hesiod; ‘Orpheus’ (Orphica); Callimachus; Theocritus et al., as well as the Chrysa Epi by Pythagoras. It also contains first editions of poets such as Tyrtaeus and Mimnermus.
