Diodorus Siculus. Histoire des Successeurs D’Alexandre le Grand..., Luxembourg, André Chevalier, 1705.
The first edition of the History of the Successors of Alexander the Great in French was initially translated by Claude de Seyssel to satisfy the wishes of the king of France Louis XII. The translator in fact mentions Ianos Laskaris, who handed him the Latin translation of the work and on which the French edition was based. The book was printed in Paris in 1530 by J. Bade. The present edition is the sixth in time in the series. It is about the Bibliotheke of Diodorus in 40 books, fragments of which ‘universal history’ have survived, arousing much interest during the Renaissance. The first Latin edition came out in Bologna in about 1472 with a translation by Poggio.
