First edition with commentary by Is. Vossius, printed in Leiden by the Elzevirs in 1640 (Brunet III/1, 621) (see also No. 249). Vossius (1618-1689), an eminent Dutch scholar, widely travelled in Central Europe, collected a great number of manuscripts and printed matter. He was head of the Amsterdam library, and moved to the court of Queen Christina who purchased his father Gerhard-Johann’s comprehensive library.
