Pepagomenos’s treatise ‘Peri podagras’ had initially been edited in Latin by Mousouros in 1517 (see No. 103) and was translated afresh by the German doctor and philosopher of French origin J. Bernard (1718-1793). He succeeded in combining medical science with Greek letters, of which he was inordinately fond.
