The first edition circulated in 22 volumes bound into 12, dated 1756-1779. Its the work of Charles Le Beau (1701-1778), French historian, professor of rhetoric at the Collège de France. As member of the Académie he undertook to compose a body of works of Byzantine historical writers, a project which he served with passion until the last minute of his life.
