First edition of the Ecclesiastike Historia and one of Polyzoes Labanitziotes’s major publishing achievements. The first two volumes circulated in 1783, the next in 1784, and they cover the events of up to 1700. The fourth volume was published by Georgios Vendotes and refers to the eighteenth century. Each volume is dedicated to a different ruler of Hungary-Wallachia: Ioannes N. Karatazas, Alexandros K. Mavrocordatos, Michael Soutsos and Alexandros Mourouzes respectively. Meletios (1611-1714) initially studied next to Bessarion Makres, and completed his studies in Padua and Venice. He attended classes in philosophy and medicine, learnt Latin and, by then a doctor-philosopher, returned to Ioannina where he was headmaster of the Disakaleio tou Epiphaniou.
