First edition of the Rhetorike by Athanasios Parios (†1813), who was born in Paros, initially studied in Smyrna and then under the outstanding grammarian Neophytos, and subsequently went to Mt Athos where he attended philosophy classes by Eugenios Bulgaris. He taught in Thessaloniki and was afterwards headmaster of the Athoniada School (Mt Athos). He finally went to Chios where he wrote his Rhetorike Pragmateia while at the head of the local academy, a post he kept until 1812, teaching Logic and Rhetoric.
