First edition of the Lausiaca, an exposé of early monasticism in Egypt, which Paladius (fifth century) dedicated to Lausus, cubicularius of Theodosius II, whence its title. The book was translated into Latin by Rufius of Aquileia as well as into many Oriental languages. Many of the works of Palladius where printed, in Latin translations, a century earlier that the present volume. For example, the Lausiaca (Paris, 1504) and the Vita Ioannis Chrysostomi (Venice, 1532).
