Petros Arkoudios. Περὶ τοῦ καθαρτηρίου πυρὸς κατὰ Βαρλαὰμ, Πέτρουτοῦ Ἀρκουδίου de Purgatoriozigne..., Rome, Typis & impensis Sac. Congreg. de Prop. Fide, 1637.
First and unique edition of this treatise by Arkoudios, who was born in Corfu and was a student at Rome’s College of Saint Athanasios, acquiring a good grounding in philosophy and theology. He embraced Catholicism and was assigned diplomatic missions to Rome by the Catholic Church, in the service of Cardinal Borghese. After his death (1634), his precious library came into the possession of the College of Saint Athanasios.
Arkoudios worked in the circle of the Propaganda, and the only two works issued from it relating to the Propaganda, bearing the title Catharterio pyr, are by him: Utrum detur Purgatorium et an illud sit per ignem (1632).
