Fr. Richard. Τάργα τῆς Πίστεως..., Paris, ἐκ τῶν τύπων Κλαυδίου τοῦ Κραμοσίου, 1658.
The Targa tis Pisteos was written in reply to a ‘sacrilegious book’ written attacking Catholics that had been printed in Moscow. The book was approved by French ‘high priests’ and three Jesuit theologians, and was translated by Fr. Richard in cooperation with François Rossiers. It is written in the common speech, in the style of a dialogue between teacher and pupil, in support of the correctness of the Catholic faith. The book aroused the ire of the circles of Constantinople’s Patriarchate: Patriarch Parthenios ordered the faithful of the Orthodoxy of Constantinople, Galata, Smyrne and every region with Orthodox inhabitants to buy the book and destroy it.
