Kaisarios Daponte. Καθρέπτης Γυναικῶν..., Leipzig, Breitkopf, 1766.
First and only edition of Dapontes’s work, with religious and secular stories about the most famous women. The book was edited by Thomas Mandakases, a doctor from Kastoria who practised in Leipzig and donated his profits and labours for the publication of Greek books. Dapontes, considered the poet of his age, was born in Scopelos in 1714 and died in 1784. Secretary of Constantinos Mavrokordatos at the court of Bucharest, he travelled to Constantinople where he was imprisoned by the Grand Vizir. He co-wrote a number of works and essays, and it should be noted that he wrote the Kathreptes Gynaecon during his imprisonment in Constantinople.
