Ioannes Nikolides from Pindos. Ἑρμηνεία περὶ τοῦ πῶς πρέπει να θεραπεύεται τὸ γαλλικὸν πάθος... Μαλαφράντζα..., Vienna, Josef Baumeister, 1794.
First and sole edition of the Hermeneia, on the subject of the cure for venereal diseases in general and syphilis in particular, then called ‘malafrantza’ (mal francese, morbo gallico). The first scientific study of syphilis is due to the significant Hellenist doctor, Niccolò Leoniceno (Libellus de epidemia) and was printed by Aldus Manutius in Venice as early as 1497. The publisher of the Malafrantza, Ioannes Nicolides from Pindos, a doctor-philosopher and member of the Academy of Vienna, was an outstanding personality of the medical world of Vienna and a comrade of Rigas’s.
