This is the first and only edition of the Metamorphoses as translated by Maximus Planudes, the renowned scholar who flourished in Constantinople in the 14thcentury. He was the compiler of the Greek Anthology and the first Byzantine scholar to translate Latin authors into Greek, including, for example, the Distichs of Cato.
