Aristoteles. Ἀριστοτέλους Περὶ ζώων γενέσεως μετὰ τῆς ἐξηγήσεως τοῦ Φιλοπόνου Βιβλία πέντε..., Venice, per Ioan. Antonium & Fratres de Sabio, February 1526.
First edition of this Aristotelian work, whose Latin translation by Th. Gazis had however already been printed in 1476. De Sabio’s edition comprises Gazis’s translation. The text’s Latin translation of the work was also issued on its own eight months later. The dedication is signed by Nikolaos Petros (Petreius) from Corfu, addressed to Andreas-Matthaeus Aquivivus, Duke of Andria.
It is the first appearance of Nikolaos Petros on the printing stage: born in 1486, he studied Greek for five years under Sergius Stissus, in Γῆ τοῦ Ὀτράντο (Ge tou Otranto). He then attended philosophy lessons in Padua and lent a helping hand to numerous scholars, contributing to their translation work as in the case of Lucas Gaurico.
