First edition of de Lacaille’s Arithmétique, with second the one printed in Venice in 1800. The translation in the vernacular was made by Sp. Asanes (about 1756-1836), who was born in Argostoli, Kefallonia, and studied medicine, literature, languages as well as physics and mathematics in Padua. Subsequently he went to Thessaloniki, where he taught, at the same time translating manuals from foreign languages, having noticed while teaching that there was a great deficiency of such text books. Ionas Sparmiotes translated from Koine into Ancient Greek.
